Episode 10: Justin Brannan
We’re back from the dead! For episode 10, we sat down with New York City council member Justin Brannan. Brannan cut his teeth playing guitar in New York hardcore bands Most Precious Blood and Indecision (and of course Caninus).
After years of touring internationally, Brannan took a step back from touring heavily and started diving into a variety of different career paths, including getting involved in the financial sector, union organizing, government affairs, and educational work.
As a lifelong resident of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Brannan saw first hand the issues that his community was experiencing. This all culminated in him running for council member in the 43rd district of NYC in 2017. Brannan ended up winning the election with just over 50% of the vote.
In the episode, we discussed how the punk and hardcore scene shaped his political views, staying motivated and involved in your local community, the importance of including vegetarian & vegan lifestyle changes in the Green New Deal, the therapeutic nature of Megadeth, and more.
Thanks to Justin for taking the time to chat with us. Follow him on Twitter to keep up with his latest news and happenings. Thank you to Bill Shouldis for producing this episode.
